2nd IMU Design Days Held in our University

The 2nd IMU Design Days, organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Visual Communication Design, was held at IMU North Campus between 6-9 May 2025. Within the scope of the event, which was realized with the contributions of Design Office, Animu (Animation Club), Art and Design Club and IMU Studio, an initiative of Visual Communication Design students, expert speakers from many disciplines such as interactive experience design, advertising, script writing, picture book creation met with students for four days.

On May 6, 2025, the opening day of the event, Ahmet Gürbüz, founder of Illusionist Digital Art Studio, made a presentation on interactive experience design. Gürbüz emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary production in the digital age and explained the relationship between teamwork, entrepreneurship and innovation through multimedia design examples. In his speech, he also drew attention to the connection between creativity, reading culture and literature. In the same session, Illusionist Digital Art Studio concept designers Beren Gönen and Ece Hendek shared important tips on portfolio preparation processes. Then they contributed to the production in the workshops with the students.

On the second day of the event, art director and graphic artist Şadi Akburak met with the participants with his presentation titled “Design vs/and Advertising”. Akburak shared his creative processes and the relationship between advertising and design with examples, and also shared his experiences about his transition to professional life. On the same day, screenwriter Hazal İnaltekin made a presentation focusing on the writing process of TV series scripts. She gave information about the working conditions of screenwriters and the dramaturgy of screenplays, and provided students with a theoretical framework of screenwriting techniques.

The third day started with the participation of children's book author Tülin Kozikoğlu, editor Keriman Güldiken and illustrator Hüseyin Sönmezay. The session focused on the children's book “Dönmedolap” and detailed the creation and illustration process. Print designs of the book in different countries were also discussed with examples, and cultural design differences were mentioned. On the same day, Marmara University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yüce Sayılgan shared information about basic lighting and camera techniques with students in the workshop titled “Light Workshop”.

On the last day of the event, Lect. Sanem Özkan's “Portfolio Evaluation” seminar and “Interview with Graduates” sessions were held on the last day of the event. In the last session, graduate students Hakan Özkan, Asutan Yılmaz, Büşra Kahraman and Umut Sevme came together with the students and shared their experiences about their career journeys.
